Knowing Fry's words are key to reading fluency and children should be able to say the words fast, without having to sound them out. In general kids who know the first 100 words can read levels A-D (kindergarten level books), kids who can read the first 200 words usually can read levels E-G and kids who can read the first 300 words can read levels H-J.  Please help your child memorize and learn how to spell the words on the list.  The words are listed in the order of the frequency they are seen in the written English language.

The goal in third grade is to be able to read at 100+words per minute (in the fall of third grade) and be reading at a level P+ (at the end of third grade).
